Dipl.-Betriebswirt Werner Matthias Dornscheidt

Werner Matthias Dornscheidt started his career in 1979 as a manager in the administration of foreign fairs of what was then Düsseldorfer Messegesellschaft mbH – NOWEA. After working briefly for the subsidiary, Internationale Messe Marketing GmbH, the business studies graduate was tasked with spearheading new projects in countries outside Germany by NOWEA International GmbH from 1984 to 1986.

Between 1986 and 1990, Dornscheidt headed the department for fairs and promotional events on behalf of the Central Marketing Society of the German Agricultural Economy (CMA) before stepping up as Deputy Managing Director at Messe Düsseldorf International GmbH, where from 1990 he was responsible for all events staged abroad.

In 1999, Dornscheidt took up the reins as President and CEO of the Board Management at Messe Leipzig GmbH. As President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, the father of two sons returned to his birthplace, the Lower Rhine Valley, on 1 January 2004.

Werner Matthias Dornscheidt is a member of the Management Board of BVV Trade Fairs Brno and is Senior Vice Chairman of the Ausstellungs- und Messe-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. (Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – AUMA) plus as a member of the Steering Committee of the Union des Foires Internationales (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry – UFI). He is also active on the “Beirat Rheinland” advisory council at Dresdner Bank AG and on the “Öffentliche Kunden” (public clients) advisory council at WestLB AG. Furthermore, he brings his extensive international experience to bear as a member of the Advisory Committee of China Expo Forum for International Cooperation (CEFCO).

In a host of other positions of office or membership and mandates, Mr. Dornscheidt has shown a high level of personal commitment, notably as a member of the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe (German Sports Aid Foundation) board of trustees. He holds the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Order of Merit of the Free State of Saxony. As of 2007, Werner M. Dornscheidt has held the title of Honorary Consul of the United Mexican States in North Rhine-Westphalia.

While studying international business administration at the Oestrich-Winkel European Business School (Germany), at the University of California, Berkeley (USA), as well as at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Hans Werner Reinhard devoted his interest to the international exhibition industry covering both theory and practice. The subject of trade fairs was also the topic of his two diploma papers. One was for the degree of a Diplom-Betriebswirt (Business Administration) in 1996, the other for that of a Diplom-Kaufmann (Commerce) in 1997. Still a student, he was already employed by the then NOWEA (North-Western Germany Exhibition Company) in Düsseldorf as well as by its subsidiary, Dusseldorf Trade Shows in Chicago (USA).

He started his professional career at the former Messe Düsseldorf International GmbH by working in the context of a project order for operating the German pavilion at Hanover’s EXPO in 2000. In 1999 Reinhard moved to Leipziger Messe GmbH. After a short period he initially headed the department of management affairs. In 2000 he also took over as head of the protocol department. As of 2001 he additionally assumed  responsibility as a project director for two trade fair events.

As of 1 January 2004 Mr. Reinhard was appointed to the management of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH as Division Director for Communications and as proxy. On 1 January 2007 Mr. Reinhard took over management of the company’s Division inland trade fairs II. His work was mainly concentrated on capital goods trade fairs.

As of 1 June 2010 Mr. Reinhard has been responsible for Management Division I and, hence, for parts of the operational business, initially as a Deputy Managing Director and as of 1 October as a Managing Director. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Messe Düsseldorf China Ltd. (Hong Kong), of Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai Ltd. (Shanghai), as well as a Member of the Board of Messe Düsseldorf Asia Ltd., Singapore and of Messe Düsseldorf Japan Ltd., Tokyo. Mr. Reinhard represents Messe Düsseldorf on the Supervisory Board of Düsseldorf Congress Sport & Event GmbH and the Shareholders’ Committee of Igedo GmbH. Furthermore, he is a  lecturer for exhibition, congress and event management at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf as well as a member of the Foundation Board of his Alma Mater.

Mr. Reinhard is married and father of three daughters.

Following his studies at the University of Stuttgart and the Georgia Institute of Technology where he gained a Master of Information and Computer Science and a Master of City Planning and Public Administration, Joachim Schäfer joined DATUM e.V., the Bonn-based institute for computer-assisted development planning, in 1978.

As early as 1980, he began his work for DELIA Associates (USA), formerly the foreign representative office in the United States of Messe Düsseldorf and subsequently the Hanover trade fair company. As Managing Director of Trans European American Marketing Company (TEAM) in the USA, his focus included organising conferences as well as developing and representing selected events staged by the Essen, Hanover, Berlin, Bern, Utrecht and Düsseldorf trade fair companies in the U.S. Between 1985 and 2005, Schäfer successfully grew Deutsche Messe AG’s American subsidiary. In the role of President of Hannover Fairs USA, he was responsible for the company’s entire portfolio of events and the associated activities of Hannover Messe in the USA.

Since June 2006, Joachim Schäfer has been a member of the management of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH where he is responsible for Management Division 2 and thus for part of the operative trade fair business. His area of responsibility also includes advertising, press work, Internet services, customer relationship management and information technology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Messe Düsseldorf North America and Messe Düsseldorf India as well as a member of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) and of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA).

He began his career in 1985 at the Deutsche Bank AG in Aalen (Württemberg) by training as a bank clerk. After completing his business management studies at the University of Passau he returned to Deutsche Bank, initially as assistant to the management board at the Stuttgart branch, later as director of company client support in the Böblingen area. In 1999 a strategic project took him to Paris for around three years, where, among others, he was a member of management at a French medium-sized bank acquired by the Group. In this period he also completed his Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Ashridge Management College, England. Back in Frankfurt he was initially in charge of the strategic development of business with European corporate clients outside Germany.

In July 2003 Stempfle moved to Freudenberg & Co., a globally-structured conglomerate with a diverse range of industrial products, consumer goods and industrially-related services. At company head offices in Weinheim, Baden Württemberg, he was initially in charge of corporate controlling, before he joined the management board of the Freudenberg Simrit Europa Group in 2005, where he was responsible for all commercial operations along with Supply Chain Management. During this period he was also the representative of the management staff on the co-determined supervisory board of the Freudenberg Dichtungsgruppe.

In October 2010 Stempfle moved to Messe Düsseldorf GmbH and on the management board there initially assumed responsibility for the finances division as well as board memberships in numerous holdings at home and abroad. Since 1.6.2011 he has also been responsible for the technology corporate division. In addition he is representing Messe Düsseldorf in the “Zukunft durch Industrie e.V” (Future through industry) initiative.

Bernhard Stempfle is married, a father of four children and an absolute Francophile.

    International Association of the Exhibition Industry (ufi)

    ufi, the Global Association of the Fair Industry, is a non-governmental organization based in Paris and associating organizers of fairs and exhibitions from around the globe. Membership in this prestigious organization is an orientation guideline and good reference for the exhibitors and visitors and one of the guarantees of the high quality of the fair and exhibition projects for which ufi lays down binding criteria on incorporation in the category of international fairs.
    Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics (FKM)

    From the very start in 1965, FKM’s basic principles included establishing comparable and reliable exhibition statistics. FKM set up uniform rules for obtaining exhibitor numbers, visitor attendance, exhibition space data and for visitor breakdown statistics. FKM ensures independent auditors check that the rules are adhered to. Because exhibitors and visitors can only plan properly if they can be sure that the data available for the period in question, compared with other exhibitions, is based on uniform criteria.
