He began his career in 1985 at the Deutsche Bank AG in Aalen (Württemberg) by training as a bank clerk. After completing his business management studies at the University of Passau he returned to Deutsche Bank, initially as assistant to the management board at the Stuttgart branch, later as director of company client support in the Böblingen area. In 1999 a strategic project took him to Paris for around three years, where, among others, he was a member of management at a French medium-sized bank acquired by the Group. In this period he also completed his Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Ashridge Management College, England. Back in Frankfurt he was initially in charge of the strategic development of business with European corporate clients outside Germany.
In July 2003 Stempfle moved to Freudenberg & Co., a globally-structured conglomerate with a diverse range of industrial products, consumer goods and industrially-related services. At company head offices in Weinheim, Baden Württemberg, he was initially in charge of corporate controlling, before he joined the management board of the Freudenberg Simrit Europa Group in 2005, where he was responsible for all commercial operations along with Supply Chain Management. During this period he was also the representative of the management staff on the co-determined supervisory board of the Freudenberg Dichtungsgruppe.
In October 2010 Stempfle moved to Messe Düsseldorf GmbH and on the management board there initially assumed responsibility for the finances division as well as board memberships in numerous holdings at home and abroad. Since 1.6.2011 he has also been responsible for the technology corporate division. In addition he is representing Messe Düsseldorf in the “Zukunft durch Industrie e.V” (Future through industry) initiative.
Bernhard Stempfle is married, a father of four children and an absolute Francophile.
