Joachim Schäfer, MICS, MCP

After graduating from the University of Stuttgart and the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned the degrees Master of Information and Computer Science and Master of City Planning and Public Administration, Joachim Schäfer went to work for DATUM e.V., the Bonn-based institute for computer-assisted development planning, in 1978.

As early as 1980 he joined DELIA Associates (USA), formerly Messe Düsseldorf’s and subsequently Hannover Messe’s foreign representative office in the United States. In his role as Managing Director of Trans European American Marketing Company (TEAM) in the USA, his duties then focused on the organisation of conferences and the U.S. representation of selected events staged by the Essen, Hanover, Berlin, Bern and Utrecht trade fair companies. From 1985 to 2005, Schäfer, as president of Hannover Fairs USA, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover, was responsible for the Hannover Messe company’s entire portfolio of events and the associated activities in the United States.

Since June 2006, as one of the managing directors at Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, Joachim Schäfer is in charge of a set of Messe Düsseldorf's domestic shows and the portfolio of partner and guest events being staged here. He is also responsible for a number of the company's internal services departments including advertising, press and public relations, internet services, CRM and IT. Schäfer is a member of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Society of Independent Show Organisers (SISO) and Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA).

An American citizen, Mr. Schäfer is married with three children.
