"The charm of modesty is passé – diversity and quality are back in fashion". Hilmar Guckert, Managing Director of the DuesseldorfCongress. Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH, reduces the current mood in the German congress and conference market to this common denominator as he looks back at the 10-year existence of his company. A trend that looks set to last, as he emphasises, and sees the growing number of enquiries about congress premises that he has registered since last year on both the congress market and in his company as a clear sign of this sustained mood upswing.
Where the lean year of 2003 brought the company DuesseldorfCongress. a drop in sales of over € 2 million to around € 8.4 million, he sees the figures for 2004 as proof of his forecasts from last year that the congress business would recover. The revenue from rentals, services and rights will probably reach the record level of around € 11 million for the full year of 2004 (31.12.). The operating result will be around € 60.000 (after € 79.000 in 2003). There could not be a more wonderful present for DuesseldorfCongress on its tenth anniversary!
In 2004 2,820 events took place (previous year 1,812). The spectrum ranges from Holiday on Ice with 23,000 visitors to a large number of fair-accompanying conferences and seminars. In total 734,000 visitors (646,000) visitors frequented the premises on 314 days (281).
Employees – an investment in the future
14 started with him on 01.01.1995, of which ten still work at the company. Meanwhile DuesseldorfCongress. already offers 60 employees a full-time job. By 2006 this figure will increase to 70 in total due to the assignment of the management of the new ice arena in Duesseldorf-Rath.
