“FairFairs Hotel” strengthens NRW as exhibition destination

Date: 03.03.2004

Quality trademark unique for all of Germany ensures exhibitors transparent hotel conditions as of today

Exhibitors at fairs in NRW will in future be granted preferential treatment for room reservations at the participating establishments. One year in advance the hotels participating in the “FairFairs Hotel” scheme will lay down their maximum room rates (so-called rack rate) which must not be exceeded at a later date. This makes the hotel prices frequently criticised during exhibition times more transparent and will “cap” them. If the agreed rack rates are not adhered to, customers can contact a DEHOGA conciliation board that will investigate each individual case and take relevant measures. Furthermore, exhibitors will also be given preferential treatment by the participating hotels in terms of room quotas and a number of optional extra services such as shuttle bus trips, free parking and VIP service.

By launching the collective trademark 'FairFairs Hotel' the DEHOGA Gastgewerbe Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V. (North Rhine-Westphalian division of the German Hotel and Food Service Association) and Messe Duesseldorf GmbH are today initiating a unique pilot project for all of Germany. “'FairFairs Hotel' gives exhibitors transparency for accommodation rates during exhibitions thereby substantially boosting the appeal of North Rhine Westphalia as an exhibition location.”

Commenting on the need to remain competitive Chairman of the Board of Messe Duesseldorf GmbH Werner M. Dornscheidt said: “Competition between German and international exhibition destinations has become keener in the past. The example of the Frankfurt Book Fair showed us all last year how much the environment of trade fairs can contribute to securing a location. 'FairFairs Hotel' is a very good approach to consolidating Duesseldorf and indeed North Rhine-Westphalia as preferred destinations for exhibitions.”

Klaus Huebenthal, General Manager of DEHOGA Gastgewerbe NRW adds “'FairFairs Hotel' gives us an excellent marketing tool that is unique and unchallenged throughout Germany. This trademark guarantees customers hitherto unknown transparency and participating accommodation establishments attractive competitive edge thanks to numerous marketing platforms. I am convinced that 'FairFairs Hotel' will fulfil our expectations.”

'Fair Fairs Hotel' is a protected collective trademark and participation is complimentary for all hotels that voluntarily comply with the regulator framework of 'FairFairs Hotel'. The framework contains uniform minimum criteria in the form of General Terms and Conditions of Business that will be applied uniformly to exhibitors at fairs in NRW. After the launch of 'FairFairs Hotel' in Duesseldorf the scheme is to be rolled out to other exhibition locations in North Rhine-Westphalia.
