At the start of January 2004, Werner Matthias Dornscheidt took over as President and CEO of Messe Duesseldorf GmbH. A native of Duesseldorf, Dornscheidt previously worked for Messe Duesseldorf from 1979 to 1999, where he last held the position of Deputy Managing Director at the former Messe Duesseldorf International.

In 1999, he moved across to Messe Leipzig, where he was appointed President and CEO. There, Dornscheidt was active particularly in enhancing the services segment of the Saxon trade fair company.

Similarly, one of Dornscheidt’s fundamental objectives for his time in office at Messe Duesseldorf is to offer the ultimate in service, so ensuring the company’s edge over the competition. "We need to offer clients everything from stand construction and hotel bookings to organising corporate events in the city – from a single service provider."

He has also earmarked the expansion of the Rhenish trade fair company’s core business and the international network as key areas of his work. "We are aiming for a constant increase in international sales," comments Dornscheidt. Together with the Asian growth markets, such as Shanghai, he has set his sights particularly on the eastern European EU accession countries and Russia.

In his new position, Werner Dornscheidt takes up the reins in a trade fair company with a global workforce of 1,351, 600 of which are employed by Messe Duesseldorf GmbH. Over 60 foreign representative offices offer assistance to exhibitors and visitors from more than 100 countries. In 2004, Messe Duesseldorf will stage 22 of its own events in its home town alone. On top of this are the approximately 100 of its own national and international events which it coordinates or participates in.
