Southeast Asia’s leading and most important regional platform for safety + health returns to Singapore - OSH in the spotlight of national agendas

20.01.2010

OS+H Asia, Southeast Asia’s leading and most dynamic OSH platform will take place in Singapore for the 7th time and will be held from 15 to 17 September 2010 at Suntec Singapore. As the world’s workshop for a vast variety of industrial and consumer products, the region is faced with increasing infrastructure expansion, manufacturing and production demands, and global competition.

With the varying phases of economic development, national governments from across Southeast Asia are pushing OSH into the spotlight, sending out a clear and explicit message to all companies that basic workplace safety standards must never be compromised in the pursuit of profits. The onus remains more than ever on companies to ensure workers have a safe working environment and at the same time to cultivate a safety culture amongst all stakeholders at the workplace. Hence, the role of OS+H Asia 2010 is clearer than ever - to introduce the latest in OSH solutions, technologies and products to Southeast Asia’s diverse industries and to reinforce the importance of workplace safety and health!

Last held in September 2008, OS+H Asia recorded its highest visitor turnout since its inception in 1998. The exhibition attracted 4,263 visitors from 36 countries. This clearly signifies the growing need for a platform dedicated to the work care sector. With positive feedback from both exhibitors and visitors at the 2008 exhibition, OS+H Asia is indeed on track to provide the region with the best in work care solutions and is certain to grow further in importance. OS+H Asia 2010 will offer some 150 international and regional exhibitors an avenue to achieve high visibility for their OSH equipment and solutions to more than 5,000 buyers and OSH practitioners from across Southeast Asia and afar. This world-class exhibition will present networking opportunities to both local and international business leaders and industry professionals to acquire valuable information on industry trends and challenges.

Host country Singapore targets global OSH standards
Highlighting its emphasis on OSH, host country Singapore established the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council in April 2008. Its mission is to work closely with the Ministry of Manpower and other Government agencies, industry, unions and professional associations to develop strategies to raise WSH standards in Singapore, and to realise the national WSH 2015 strategy, the primary aim of which is to achieve workplace fatality rate of 2.5 per 100,000 workers by 2015; half the level of 2005. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has further challenged the industry to achieve a target of 1.8 fatalities per 100,000 workers by 2018, which would rank Singapore among the top nations globally.

Inaugural Singapore WSH Conference to be held alongside OS+H Asia 2010 exhibition
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower and the Work Safety and Health Council will be organizing the inaugural Singapore WSH Conference for CEOs from across all sectors in Asia to come together to discuss new challenges and frontiers in WSH and how to deal with them. The conference will focus on the impact and implications of WSH challenges faced by businesses in Asia. Positioned as the premier WSH conference within Asia, the conference, to be held concurrently with the OS+H Asia 2010 exhibition, is expected to draw some 600 participants, ranging from CEOs, senior government officials to WSH professionals. More information on the conference is forthcoming.

Stalwart support for OS+H Asia 2010 Exhibition
Organized by Messe Düsseldorf Asia, OS+H Asia 2010 is supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower, Work Safety and Health (WSH) Council, Occupational and Environmental Health Society, National Safety Council of Singapore, Singapore Institution of Safety Officers, Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH – organizer of A+A, the world’s largest trade fair for safety, security and health at work. The overwhelming support from these organizations further strengthens OS+H Asia 2010 as Southeast Asia’s ultimate meeting place and sourcing platform for OSH products, solutions and services.

Concurrent medical and health care exhibition
Held alongside the OS+H Asia 2010 exhibition is MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, Asia’s largest and most successful exhibition on hospital, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medical and rehabilitative equipment and supplies. This exhibition, held for the 8th time in Singapore, will showcase the best in medical and health care equipment, solutions and services from some 400 exhibiting companies spanning the globe.
