Werner M. Dornscheidt, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH

Group sales increased to 360 million euros +++ International share of Group sales high at 29 percent +++ Messe Düsseldorf GmbH expecting result of more than 15 million euros after tax

The Messe Düsseldorf Group has closed the 2011 financial year on a successful note and thus laid the foundation for its continued strategic growth. Sales of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH totalled 289 million euros and are thus seven percent above budget (2010: 272 million euros). Group revenue increased to 360 million euros (2010: 335 million euros). “Our growing international theme presence and the high number of events at the Düsseldorf site in 2011 have resulted in a renewed increase in sales and profits”, explains Messe Head Werner M. Dornscheidt. 29 percent of Group sales were achieved outside of Germany.

Subject to final approval of the balance sheet, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH is reporting a post-tax result of 15.2 million euros for the financial year 2011 (2010: 8 million euros).

“The Messe Düsseldorf Group and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH are well positioned strategically“, explains Dornscheidt. “Our growth is sustainable. Depending on exhibition cycles and overall economic developments, we expect national and international growth of four to five percent per annum.” Messe Düsseldorf wishes to considerably expand its position as the world’s leading organiser of capital goods exhibitions by 2015.

A central component of the corporate strategy is the subsidy-free and sustainable development of the Group.

Increased international demand for Düsseldorf exhibitions

The share of international exhibitors and visitors at almost all of the 21 own and 17 guest events held in Düsseldorf in 2011 was stabilised or expanded. 58 percent of exhibitors (2010: 57 percent) and 32 percent of visitors (2010: 30 percent) came from abroad. Figures for the own events of Messe Düsseldorf were higher – in particular for the capital goods exhibitions that are important for Düssdeldorf. Here, 65 percent of exhibitors and 50 percent of visitors came from abroad. In the case of the globally leading exhibitions interpack and MEDICA, over 70 percent of exhibitors and more than 50 percent of visitors came from abroad.

In the financial year 2011, the international exhibition business of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH accounted for 34 million euros of sales (2010: 38 million euros).

In 2011, Messe Düsseldorf organised 79 contract events and participations abroad. The most important markets were the CIS states and the Czech Republic, followed by China, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and India.

Stable development of the international Group companies

The international subsidiaries within the Messe Düsseldorf Group developed positively in stronger markets. Only the subsidiary in Brno continues to be in-fluenced by the investment backlog in Central and Eastern Europe. The ex-pected sales figures for 2011 in detail:

  • Veletrhy Brno: 45.9 million euros
  • Messe Düsseldorf Moscow OOO: 8.5 million euros
  • Messe Düsseldorf China/Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai: 7.5 million euros
  • Messe Düsseldorf ASIA Pte. Ltd. / Singapore: 5.1 million euros
  • Messe Düsseldorf North America Inc.: 3.5 million euros

Outlook for 2012: continued intense event business

For Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, 2012 is once again a year with a high number of events – 25 own and 15 guest events in Düsseldorf. These include six important capital goods exhibitions - drupa, MEDICA, wire/Tube, glasstec, Valve World Expo. 2012 will be characterised by drupa with more than 1,800 exhibitors from 50 countries. More than 340,000 visitors are expected in Düsseldorf.

In addition, a total of more than 80 own events and participations will be held abroad. The initial events INDOPLAS, INDOPACK, INDOPRINT in the growth market Indonesia are the logical expansion of Messe Düsseldorf’s product family strategy.

Exhibition centre: investment programme 2020

Messe Düsseldorf will invest more than 500 million euros in the modernisation of its Düsseldorf centre by 2020. Thus far, four exhibition halls have been completely renovated. Conversion of Hall 12 will be completed in 2012/2013. The exhibition company will finance the investments from its own resources.
