And yet another forum for global communication is decisively co-shaped by us: the German House. As a co-partner of the German Olympic team and co-sponsor of the German Paralympic team we have coordinated this international meeting point for the teams and their partners in cooperation with Deutsche Sport Marketing at all Olympic Games since 2000 and at all Paralympic Games since 2010.
Every 2 years sportspeople from all over the world compete for medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

For many years now Messe Düsseldorf has been providing strong support to the German Olympic and Paralympic Family in the design, implementation and organisation of the German Houses – as meeting points and centres of encounters for sports, media and sponsors.
Deutsche Sport Marketing (DSM), which is responsible for the German Houses as the official marketing agency of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the National Paralympic Committee Germany (DBS), has been cooperating with us since the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 (Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004, Turin 2006, Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Rio 2016). It is with pleasure that Deutsche Sport Marketing GmbH and Messe Düsseldorf have just recently renewed their cooperation for another four years until Tokyo 2020 including PyeongChang 2018.
“To us it is a matter of honour and thriving partnership to also fulfil this commitment with all our energy in future,” said Werner M. Dornscheidt, President & CEO of Messe Düsseldorf speaking on the occasion of the press roundtable at Düsseldorf Congress Center in late April – and sealed the cooperation agreement between the trade fair organiser and the two organisations until 2020 together with Axel Achten, Managing Director DSM.
“This national partnership means we can promote Olympic and Paralympic performance sports and make a contribution to the success of our teams at the same time – and we are very proud of this. The operation of the German Houses forms part of our commitment in the sporting arena. This boosts Düsseldorf’s international positioning as a business hub and sports city but also the significant role business plays in performance sports. By continuing this cooperation we would like to send out a resolute signal for the future.”
Vancouver 2010 saw Messe Düsseldorf for the first time leverage its experience gained with the leading international REHACARE INTERNATIONAL – International Trade Fair and Congress for Rehabilitation, Care, Prevention, Inclusion – in cooperation with Deutsche Sport Marketing (DSM), also for the benefit of the Paralympic team, by designing, building and organising the German House – as a meeting point and centre for encounters between sports, media and sponsors.
With its commitment Messe Düsseldorf is delighted to be able to make a contribution to the inclusion and integration of disabled sports and its athletes. This year the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro. The metropolis on the Copacabana attracts participants with tropical temperatures, white sandy beaches and Brazilian hospitality. The German delegation will “pitch its tent” near the beach: the German House will be erected at the “Barra Blue Beach Point” in Barra da Tijuca.
“In Rio we will see a German House the way you’d like it – as meeting point for our team and its guests: lively, inviting, colourful, inspiring – Brazilian after all,” says Chef de Mission Michael Vesper. “This location means we are close to the athletes. I look forward to exciting themed evenings with our partners and hopefully many medal celebrations with our sportspeople,” adds DBS President Friedhelm Julius Beucher.
In any event, Messe Düsseldorf already very much looks forward to building a joint home away from home in Rio for all participating German athletes, media representatives and partners in the form of the German House. The know-how we have acquired in handling major events, the experience we have gained in dealing with people from the most diverse cultural backgrounds and, last but not least, our passion for sports all benefit us in this.
