German House

And yet another forum for global communication is decisively co-shaped by us: the German House. As a partner of the German Olympic team and co-sponsor of the German Paralympic team we have coordinated this international meeting point for the teams and their partners in cooperation with Deutsche Sport Marketing at all Olympic Games since 2000 and at all Paralympic Games since 2010.

The German Houses of the last 20 Years

For 20 years Messe Düsseldorf has been realising the German Houses for the Olympic Games on behalf of Deutsche Sport Marketing (DSM) and since 2010 also for the Paralympic Games. All German Houses of the past 20 years in our gallery.

Sidney 2000

The German House was realised by us for the first time for the Summer Olympics in Sydney 2000. It found its home in the Balsam Pacific Building, a manufacturer of tartan tracks for sporting events, close to Stadium Australia.

SALT LAKE CITY 2002

There were two locations for the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City: In Salt Lake City, the German House was located in the Alumni House of the University of Utah ...

... in Park City, a branch was set up in a racquet club.

ATHEN 2004

Overlooking the newly built Olympic Stadium was the German House at the German School Athens. This is where the successes of the German athletes were celebrated in 2004.

TURIN 2006

In the mountains of Sestriere, we added a prefabricated house to the existing restaurant Il Ritrovo for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin so that the German team had enough space to feel comfortable.

BEIJING 2008

In Beijing, the Hotel Kempinski became the meeting place for the German team in 2008. The garden and several restaurant areas were redesigned for our purposes.

VANCOUVER 2010

There were again two locations for the 2010 Winter Games: In Vancouver, the German House was hosted by Simon Fraser University (SFU) in the middle of downtown Vancouver.

In Whistler, Team Germany pitched their tents at the Nicklaus North Golf Club.

Afterwards, the German Paralympics House was held in the same location for the first time!

LONDON 2012

In London, the medals of the German athletes were celebrated in the listed Museum of London Docklands. This was the home of the German House in 2012.

SOTSCHI 2014

In 2014, the German team had set up its living room in the Chalet restaurant in Krasnaya Polyana for the Winter Games in Sochi.

RIO DE JANEIRO 2016

At the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, the German "Beach House" was located in Barra Blue Beach Point, in the Barra da Tijuca district in southwest Rio, directly on the sea.

PYEONGCHANG 2018

In PyeongChang, the German House 2018 was housed at Birch Hill Golf Club in the immediate vicinity of the Olympic Village.

TOKYO 2020

The meeting point for the German athletes in Tokyo 2020 is the "AQUA CiTY ODAIBA" shopping centre in the Odaiba district, where several floors will be made available for the German House.
