Sales driver and employment engine for all of Germany
Trade fairs are a city business. They draw in visitors, exhibitors and multipliers from all over the world and they reach out into the city, the region, the rest of Germany and the world. We bring added value by boosting purchasing power, assuring jobs and generating tax revenue – and benefit first and foremost Düsseldorf, as the latest study conducted by the ifo Institute for Economic Research reveals.
We drive sales. The findings of the ifo Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung an der Universität München e.V. (Institute for Economic Research), show that nationwide turnover totalling 2.44 billion euros each year is attributable to Messe Düsseldorf and its events. In addition to this, we assure 22,642 jobs in Germany and generate 465 million euros in tax revenue for the public coffers.
Devoted to Düsseldorf? And how!
We promote our location because the business of trade fairs benefits Düsseldorf in particular with an annual average of 1.29 billion euros in exhibition-related turnover, 30.1 million euros in taxes and an average 1,035,000 overnight stays. For hotels, restaurants, tradespeople, transport and the retail industry, Messe Düsseldorf is an indispensable economic engine. That Düsseldorf benefits even more today than it did at the time of the previous ifo study is due to our international strategy. The top international trade fairs that we hold in Düsseldorf attract more and more visitors from all over the world, and they are now staying in town for longer – a win-win situation.
No doubt about it, our partners know what their trade fair means to them.
Armin Laschet, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia: “The Düsseldorf exhibition centre highlights the exceptional potential of the North Rhine-Westphalian exhibition landscape. To me, it is also a symbol of our state’s tremendous innovative and economic strength. Thanks to its international appeal, Messe Düsseldorf doubles as an engine for jobs and an export platform.”
Dr. Stephan Keller, Lord Mayor of the state capital of Düsseldorf: "Messe Düsseldorf is an important economic driver, location factor and employer in the state capital. Through their visitors and exhibitors, the trade show events in Düsseldorf not only generate considerable sales for the retail, hotel and catering sectors, but also generate municipal tax revenues. Through its international network, Messe Düsseldorf is bringing more and more foreign customers to Düsseldorf's world-leading trade fairs, thus - quite incidentally - generating positive publicity for Düsseldorf as a business location. In this way, it makes a decisive contribution to positioning Düsseldorf as an attractive, Rhenish-global metropolis."
Gregor Berghausen, Chairman of Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce: “Without its trade fairs, Düsseldorf would not be the leading economic hub it is today. The exhibition centre attracts to the city and the region a large number of exhibitors and visitors with great purchasing power from both within Germany and abroad. Without them, the hotel and catering trades, exhibition service providers, transport companies and retailers would generate substantially less turnover.”
Andreas Ehlert, President of Düsseldorf Chamber of Trade: “Highly respected international trade fairs, such as DRUPA, MEDICA and BOOT, attract visitors in their tens of thousands to our city each year. Messe Düsseldorf provides job security for thousands of people. It generates turnover in the billions. And that also benefits us, the trades.”
