Obviously, what we have in mind is not our commitment to environmental protection. Quite the opposite: We are talking about energy and resources. We’ve been passionate about our responsibility for many years now, and so it followed naturally that we should take part in the ECO PROFIT programme and obtain certification under the international standard ISO 50001. It's with a certain amount of pride that we are showing off for once – with a good grade in energy management.

Thanks to our ambitious targets, we’ve reduced our power consumption at trade fairs by up to 20 per cent over the last 10 years, and our heating energy by up to 30 per cent, despite increases in our exhibition space. In total, we’ve implemented a variety of resource-friendly measures that are saving us between 4,200 and 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. This matches the annual per capita power consumption of 500 people. And we are aiming even higher. That is why we continue to work on reducing our emissions and have additionally switched our power supply to 100% green electricity since the beginning of 2022.
Our approach: many small steps towards an ambitious goal
And everyone is involved!
To achieve these savings, many people are making lots of small adjustments. Most importantly, our workforce. Numerous proposals on saving resources have come directly from our own employees – partly thanks to professional development courses and our endeavours to raise awareness about energy savings.
Here are a few of the things we’ve implemented:
Conversion of 30 autonomous cooling units at 13 locations (1998) to one automated cooling system with 13 units in 5 places (2017)
Installation of photovoltaic units on the roof of Hall 5 and the roofs of our warehouses at Stockumer Höfe (2011)
Demand-controlled activation of main and secondary ventilation systems
Installation of an efficient combined heat and power unit (2010)
Upgrade of the night-time reduction system of static heating
Conversion to LED lighting and demand-controlled activation of many lighting systems through motion sensors
Speed-controlled production of compressed air, user optimisation of the level of compressed air and continuous leakage monitoring of the compressed air network

ECO PROFIT as a key concept
Eco-profitable!
ECO PROFIT is a nationwide German initiative that supports enterprises in combining environmental benefits and environmental gain. Participation is only open to businesses that truly excel in both their willingness and ability to innovate. One major success factor is a company’s workforce. Given the right conditions, it is possible to implement many measures without additional costs.
The ECO PROFIT certificate means that …
we’ve set up a comprehensive programme to improve our corporate environmental protection and we’ve started to implement it
we continually monitor our corporate processes, so that we can further reduce any negative environmental impact
we record the volumes and costs of our energy and raw material consumption and also our harmful emissions and waste
we actively involve our workforce in the reform process
