150,000 visitors and 800 top European skilled workers are expected to attend the main event of EuroSkills 2027, the European Skills Competition, in the state capital Düsseldorf in September 2027. Innovative projects are already promoting cross-border exchange between European youth in the run-up to the event.
Düsseldorf, 17 June 2022 – EuroSkills brings together skilled workers from across Europe to demonstrate their abilities and skills in their respective professions and become the best of the best. This championship takes place every two years. The special feature for 2027: What is already known from the world of football will also be practised at the European Skills Championship. Not a single country will host, but Germany and Luxembourg together. For the first time in the 15-year history of EuroSkills, the two countries, together with the two organisations WorldSkills Germany and WorldSkills Luxembourg, applied and won. But the City of Düsseldorf is particularly pleased: since yesterday (16 June) it has been confirmed that the state capital and Messe Düsseldorf will be the venue for this major event.
Dr Michael J. Rauterkus, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs: "It is an honour for our city that WorldSkills Germany and WorldSkills Luxembourg have successfully applied together to host EuroSkills 2027. This underlines the international perspective of this project, which fits very well with Düsseldorf and the people from more than 180 nations living here. It is always a pleasure for us to welcome people from all over Europe and the world. The European Skills Championships are therefore a great enrichment for Düsseldorf. Together with all those involved, we will ensure that EuroSkills 2027 is a colourful, diverse and lively event with great appeal."
"With over 70 years of expertise in organising international events, Messe Düsseldorf offers the perfect setting for hosting EuroSkills 2027," explained Wolfram N. Diener, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. "State-of-the-art exhibition halls, a congress centre that meets all needs and excellent transport connections are the hallmarks of Messe Düsseldorf. It is a huge pleasure for us that the numerous European professionals will compete here."
150,000 visitors will cheer on 800 competitors. In the run-up to the event, tens of thousands of young people will be inspired by joint projects in Germany and Luxembourg to think about their future, to discover the diversity of professions and thus to take a close look at their own professional ideas and career opportunities. For the event itself, the hosts of EuroSkills 2027 are currently planning with around 800 competitors from numerous European nations, who will compete in over 50 vocational disciplines and demonstrate their skills. In addition, around 150,000 visitors are expected.
Düsseldorf and the exhibition grounds are an ideal location for the event, because the city not only has an excellent infrastructure, it is also an internationally successful business location with a broad mix of industries.
The EuroSkills Competitions
The European Skills Championships have been held every two years since 2008. The last EuroSkills competitions were held in Graz, Austria, in September 2021. Around 400 participants from 22 European countries competed for the medals. In 38 official and ten presentation disciplines, they demonstrated the skills they had acquired during their training with great skill, concentration and ambition on a competition area of 70,000 square metres. About 22,000 enthusiastic visitors came to watch the competitions.
WorldSkills Europe was founded in 2006 as a non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands to provide a framework for the competitions and to carry out the tasks. Currently, 31 nations from Europe are members of WorldSkills Europe. Here, the geographically defined Europe forms the frame of reference
