On the occasion of Germany’s Fifth Diversity Day today, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH signed the Diversity Charter at the IHK (German Chamber of Commerce) Diversity Day on 23 May 2017. In this way the Düsseldorf trade fair organisers demonstrated their official commitment to cosmopolitanism and worldwide collaboration in our globalised society. “We are a globally active company, so that diversity is part of our everyday lives. Not only do we deal with a wide variety of industries, nationalities and individuals among our customers, but we also value diversity in our own ranks,” says Werner M. Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. “Experience has shown that if our employees feel appreciated with all their different backgrounds, it greatly boosts their motivation. Also, heterogeneous teams often find more creative and innovative solutions. For us, it goes without saying that we should offer the same opportunities to everyone who works for us, without any prejudice.” He goes on to explain that any new staff are closely selected under this criterion and that diversity is always a major element throughout the recruitment process.
The Diversity Charter is a business initiative to promote diversity within enterprises and institutions and is run under the patronage of the German Federal Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel. The aim of the initiative is to create a working environment that is free from prejudice and where all employees are valued, irrespective of their gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, worldview, disability, age, sexual orientation or identity. The Charter has so far been signed by over 2,400 enterprises and public institutions.
